What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation -- also known as breast enlargement or mammoplasty -- is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in Oklahoma. A breast augmentation in OK involves the insertion of a saline or silicone-filled implant to increase the size of your breasts, creating a more flattering, better-proportioned figure. The procedure is typically performed on women who have at least one of the following:

small breasts
underdeveloped breasts
unevenly sized breasts
breasts that have decreased in size after having children

If you are considering breast augmentation, then please schedule a consultation today with Dr. Garland Porterfield. He will extensively discuss your goals, evaluate your health and examine you carefully to help determine the most appropriate breast augmentation for you. Dr. Porterfield and his skilled staff have helped women throughout the Oklahoma City area, including those seeking breast augmentation in Edmond, Midwest City, Lawton, Shawnee and across Oklahoma County.

Am I a Good Candidate for Oklahoma City Breast Augmentation?

Women who choose breast augmentation in Oklahoma City represent a wide variety of ages. What they have in common is a desire to improve their self-confidence and self-image. The best candidates for the procedure are women with little or no sagging of the breasts and a reasonable amount of breast tissue to cover the lower part of the implant. Oklahoma City breast augmentation patients should also be physically healthy and realistic about their expectations.

Dr. Porterfield and his caring, knowledgeable staff will be happy to meet with you to discuss your suitability for breast augmentation in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Lawton, Shawnee and Oklahoma County. We have years of experience helping women throughout the area take the first steps toward happier, more-confident lives.

How is a Breast Augmentation Performed?

A breast augmentation in Oklahoma City is an outpatient procedure that usually lasts about one hour or less and is performed under local or general anesthesia. Dr. Porterfield’s office uses a board-certified anesthesiologist for every surgery.

The pattern of the incision will be based on whether this is a first implant or a revision surgery, the type and size of the implant being used and other factors. Incisions are always made where the scarring will be least noticeable. The most common incisions for breast augmentation in Oklahoma City include:

an inframammary incision (near the crease just under the breast)
an axillary incision (in the underarm area)
a periareolar incision (at the edge of the areola, the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple)

After the incisions are made, the surgeon will create a pocket behind the breast tissue (called submammary or subglandular placement) or beneath the pectoral muscle and on top of the chest wall (submuscular placement). The implant will be placed inside, and the incisions are sutured or taped closed.

Dr. Porterfield has performed breast augmentation on hundreds of Oklahoma City-area women, including those from Edmond and Midwest City. By scheduling a consultation today, you and Dr. Porterfield can discuss the individual advantages of each method and what would be the best for you.

What is Recovery Like After a Breast Augmentation?

For about an hour after a breast augmentation in Oklahoma City, you may experience some pain or nausea, but Dr. Porterfield’s compassionate, professionally trained staff will make sure you are comfortable. When you return home, you may feel somewhat tired and sore for several days following the mammoplasty. Your breasts may remain swollen and sensitive to physical contact for as long as a month. The full results of your breast augmentation may not be visible until your breast tissue (and muscle, if the implant has been placed submuscularly) adjusts.

Dr. Porterfield is both well trained and well experienced in Oklahoma City breast augmentation. He employs new surgical techniques to minimize pain and speed recovery, so most patients will typically be back to work within three to four days, if not sooner.
